Building Momentum: Reflections on Our Campaign Launch Event

ree

Our campaign has been quietly and steadily growing over the past few weeks. Since the digital launch earlier this month, there’s already been a flurry of work behind the scenes. We’ve been posting online, building connections, gathering feedback, and laying the foundation for a strong, community-driven campaign.

This weekend’s in-person launch event marked an exciting new level. It gave us the opportunity to bring people together in one space, to celebrate the work so far, and to build energy for what comes next. For me, it was a moment that confirmed just how much care, dedication, and community support is behind this campaign.

Gratitude for a Community Effort

What made this event truly special was the way it came together through the generosity of so many. The food, the technical setup, the music, the campaign buttons, and the event coordination were all donated by people who believe in the vision we’re sharing. These acts of kindness and support mean so much. They reflect a spirit of shared purpose that fuels everything we’re doing.

I’m also deeply grateful to have hosted the event in one of Edmonton’s beloved community league halls. These spaces are a defining feature of many older neighbourhoods. They help build trust, connection, and resilience among neighbours. It truly makes me sad that many newer neighbourhoods across Ward sipiwiyiniwak still lack these important gathering places. I will continue to advocate for equitable access to community spaces so all residents can come together, organize, and thrive.

Your Ideas Matter

One of the most meaningful parts of the event was the input wall, where attendees were invited to share their thoughts on a range of city issues. From housing to parks, from transit to accessibility, the feedback was thoughtful and practical. These insights will continue to shape our platform as we build it together.

I’m committed to continuing this conversation, both online and in person. If you couldn’t make the event but want to contribute your ideas, please do reach out. This is a collaborative campaign, and every voice matters.

Next Steps: Hitting the Doors

With the digital launch behind us and the in-person celebration complete, we’re now fully stepping into the next phase. This weekend, we’ll begin knocking on doors, delivering flyers, and showing up at community events throughout the ward.

We’re also actively looking for someone to help coordinate our canvassing and flyer delivery routes. If that sounds like something you or someone you know might enjoy, we’d love to connect.

This campaign is grounded in long-standing community relationships, deep knowledge of city systems, and a shared desire to build a city that works better for everyone. Thank you for being part of it.

I’m excited for what’s ahead, and I can’t wait to see you out there at the doors, online, and everywhere in between.

Let’s keep going, together.

We respectfully acknowledge that my campaign work takes place on Treaty 6 territory and the Métis Homeland — the traditional lands of the Cree, Blackfoot, Métis, Nakota Sioux, Iroquois, Dene, Ojibway/Saulteaux/Anishinaabe, Inuit, and many others. These lands, known in Cree as amiskwaciwâskahikan (Beaver Hills House), have been a gathering place and center of culture, knowledge, and innovation since time immemorial.

We recognize and commit to the the ongoing responsibility to learn from and stand in solidarity with Indigenous peoples, whose histories and contributions continue to shape the community we are honoured to serve. We commit to ensuring a better future for all Edmontonians by working on policies and processes that ensure justice and wellbeing for all.
