Endorsements for Giselle General

Why community leaders are supporting Giselle

Here’s what community members have said about Giselle’s leadership. These endorsements — past and present — speak to her values, dedication, and deep ties to Edmonton.

Marie Gordon, Lawyer and former Board Chair, Edmonton Community Legal Centre

I’m so happy to support Giselle General’s campaign seeking a seat on Edmonton City Council. Giselle is much loved and respected by those she works with at the Edmonton Community Legal Centre, working hard , towards the goal of improving access to justice for those who face barriers. Giselle would be a wonderful presence at City Hall - she has tremendous positive energy – she has the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people and get things done. She is highly collaborative and creative, and knows how to be strong as well as flexible. Most importantly, Giselle has a real vision of community – one that is all about promoting social justice for those who struggle with poverty and exclusion. She knows the value to our economy, of seeing people maximize their skills and talents – no matter where they are from or what barriers they’ve faced. She has lived an extraordinary life, and she brings her experiences to the table with a perspective that is global, inclusive and compassionate. Giselle also has an amazing commitment to the environment. The long-term wellbeing of Edmonton is going to require people who are leaders in promoting clean policies – who do more than talk about it – they understand and live it, and are committed to making Edmonton a leader in this field. I wholeheardedly support Giselle General in her bid to join City Council in October – she has all the skills and experience to do a stellar job, and the heart and passion to do it really well!

Jasmin Gerwien, Arabic Interpreter, Trainer and Supervisor

I've had the pleasure working with Giselle in her daytime job helping low-income people who cannot afford legal advice. Her dedication and hard work truly impressed me. I've seen her manage their regular programs as well as large-scale annual events and was amazed by her skills and hard work, keeping everything and everyone in tact, even when there were challenging moments. She is a kind, caring, passionate, and hard worker woman who knows how to get any job or event done even under pressure. So I know she would make an excellent city councillor for Edmonton, as she will serve all people in our city!

Reena Herian, Lawyer, Mediator, Founder: Accord Family Law

I've worked with Giselle General for years in her successful mission to provide legal services to those in need. Giselle's dedication to improving the lives of Edmontonians is unwavering and unparalleled. She treats every human with dignity and respect, no matter where they come from. No task is beneath Giselle, even though she leads an entire organization with precision and excellence. With her deep understanding of important issues in Edmonton, her ability to build strong relationships, and her commitment to leadership through hard work, I have no doubt that Giselle will be a huge asset to Edmonton as a city councillor.

Mila Bongco-Philipzig, Filipino Writer, Artist, Inclusion and Diversity Council

I have worked with Giselle in many community-based events, and she was consistently reliable, hard-working, and full of creative and helpful ideas. She is not only smart and very well-informed of the many issues and experiences that need to be represented in our city council, but Giselle is also genuinely connected to the needs of the communities she wants to serve. I admire her long-standing service to initiatives towards improving homelessness, transportation and mobility, and care for the environment. Giselle as a city councilor will have a very positive impact to our city.

Thomas Feth, Edmonton-based Lawyer

Having worked with Giselle for a number of years in providing nonprofit legal services to thousands of Edmontonians, I enthusiastically endorse her for a seat on the Edmonton City Council. Giselle is a compassionate, hard-working, dedicated, and strong person who believes in making our city a more safe, inclusive, and accessible place for everyone. There are deep inequities in our city that harm so many of our community members. Giselle’s years of experience and service, dedicated to helping improve the lives of Edmonton’s most vulnerable, demonstrate that she is serious about making our city a better place. She is exactly the kind of voice we need on Edmonton’s City Council.

Isabelle Lam, Lawyer: Alberta Crown Prosecutor's Office

Giselle has enthusiastically dedicated her time, efforts, and talents to improving her community during the many years that I’ve known her. She is someone that walks the talk. From her daily work providing compassionate services to impoverished Edmontonians in need of legal assistance to her regular volunteer commitments and blood/hair donations for medical causes, Giselle has always been giving back to the community. Most importantly, Giselle is well attuned to the needs of everyday Edmontonians. As someone that has overcome many challenges in her life, she takes the time to educate herself about the issues impacting the people around her to try and improve their experiences. These invaluable qualities of Giselle will ensure that Edmonton becomes a more accessible and inclusive space for everyone. I am confident that she would be the tireless advocate that Edmontonians deserve in a City Councillor.
