This past weekend, I hosted a gathering to thank everyone who helped make this campaign possible, the volunteers, supporters, neighbours, friends, and family who believed in accessible and accountable local leadership.
It was wonderful to see familiar faces and new ones alike, people who delivered flyers and lawn signs, knocked on doors, offered rides, donated, or simply shared kind words along the way. Every single effort mattered.
This campaign, like the one I ran in 2021, was truly people-powered. It was grassroots, heart-driven, and grounded in care for our community. We ran with the values of accessibility, accountability, and empathy at the centre and I’m deeply proud of what we accomplished together.
We reached nearly 4,850 votes, placing third in a competitive field filled with well-funded and high-profile campaigns. We earned around 10 endorsements from organizations and political commentators. But more than numbers, this represents trust, connection, and countless conversations at the doors — honest, respectful exchanges that define what local democracy should be.
While I didn’t win the seat, I feel deeply fulfilled by the campaign we ran. We showed that politics can be kind, inclusive, and consistent with who I am and that’s something I will always stand by.
Shoutout to The Calamansi Club for their amazing music set list they performed, and the delicious drinks and pastries from Balay Coffee.
What's Next?
The campaign chapter may be complete, but my work in the community continues just as it always has.
Over the coming months, I’ll be returning to several projects and roles that were temporarily on pause:
🎬 My first documentary about Edmonton’s Filipino community and our long journey toward having a community hall will premiere on December 2nd.
🏡 I’ll be returning to community league service in the new year, helping strengthen our neighbourhood networks from the ground up.
✍️ I’ll resume my columns with The Alberta Chronicle and The Alberta Filipino Journal, as well as my personal blog filipinayeg.com continuing to share insights on living in Edmonton, social and civic issues.
📖 I’m also working on my first book which is a childhood memoir that I hope to finalize by the end of next year.
🏛️ I’ll assess opportunities to once again serve on city boards or commissions, as I did for years with the Edmonton Transit Service Advisory Board. Those roles may be demanding, but they are essential to shaping how our city works.
As I did after the 2021 election, I will once again compile and share the community concerns and insights I gathered during this campaign with the new councillor and with the Mayor. Every story shared and every issue raised still matters.
For anyone thinking about getting more involved please do. Join your local community league, attend city consultations, volunteer for a local cause, or even consider running for office one day. I’ll gladly share everything I’ve learned with anyone who wants to take that next step. Grassroots involvement is where democracy truly lives — neighbour to neighbour, action by action.
My Deep Gratitude
To everyone who believed in me, some for a second time, and some for the very first, thank you.
This campaign may be over, but my service to the community is not. I’m excited to continue contributing to Edmonton’s growth and well-being — through advocacy, storytelling, and hands-on civic work.
The path ahead is bright, and I can’t wait to keep walking it with all of you.
Accessible. Accountable. Always there for you.
